Merlin Music Academy
Why Learn With Us?
At Merlin Music we believe that playing music and learning an instrument is something that everyone should have an opportunity to do. Every person regardless of age or level of experience is, we believe, capable of gaining the skills and knowledge needed to make playing a musical instrument rewarding and fun.
All our Tutors are passionate about teaching and inspire both adults and children alike. We have a fantastic group of students most of them have been with us from the start. We are all very supportive and encouraging of one another. Our aim is to build on each student’s confidence and ability to play and perform in front of other people. This we do by holding monthly music sessions, workshops and concerts. Or of course getting the pleasure and fulfillment of learning or improving your playing of an instrument.
The Advantage of Learning An Instrument With Us
Recent studies have shown children who play a musical instrument test higher in verbal skills, maths related spatial skills and even memory skills. Music is a vital part of a complete education. Other benefits of playing an instrument include commitment and team work. Learning to play an instrument requires commitment and practice, but taking lessons in a supportive creative environment with Tutors who are also committed and highly experienced makes learning fun.
Of course the social side of getting together and learning a musical instrument is also extremely important for a person of any age and very rewarding.
We Will Provide an Instrument
Included in the cost of your fees is the use of an instrument within your class for free. We will provide you with the use of a guitar, fiddle or accordion which will be suitable for your age, size. If you require the use of an instrument to take home and practice we can hire an instrument out to you. Prices and terms are available on request.
Performance Opportunities
All our Tutors coordinate the learning of tunes so students have the opportunity to perform in concerts at the end of term. This can be a great motivator and the performance itself provides a sense of pride and accomplishment for the student and their family. We also hold monthly music sessions, workshops and much much more.
RSAMD Graded Exams
We can offer the opportunity to study for and sit your RSAMD. The RSAMD programme promotes traditional Scottish performance skills and the best of traditional repertoire by the establishment of a specialist, performance-based series of assessments true to the artistic integrity of Scotland’s musical heritage.
We can offer syllabuses up to Grade 5 for fiddle, accordion devised and examined by specialists in Scottish traditional music. We plan to develop our syllabuses up to Grade 8, however, and to develop additional syllabuses in time. If interested enquire for more details directly.
